“Art & Activism” within
Climate Communication

Martina Trepczyk explores the dynamic intersection of art and activism. The guest lecture is part of the course Climate Communication at BOKU University Vienna.

The course, strongly co-organized by students, explores key aspects of climate communication. To gain a comprehensive understanding, the topic is approached from an inter- and transdisciplinary perspective, combining academic discourse, insights from communication experts, and perspectives from civil society. Topics covered include: an introduction to climate communication; dos and don’ts of climate communication; climate emotions and communication psychology; an overview of climate disinformation; climate journalism; NGO campaign work; climate communication and climate justice; and climate dialogue in everyday life.

Martina Trepczyk will explore how creative expression can serve as a powerful tool for social change, highlighting the role of photography. She will present examples of photographs that have shocked or moved the world and discuss the impact of visual storytelling in shaping narratives around the climate crisis. The lecture concludes with a presentation of her own work in both still and moving image.
